Privacy policy

Last updated 2 August 2026

This policy explains what personal data we collect through lexthesaurus.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal language.

Who we are

Lex The Saurus is a brand of The Other Way, Riehen, Basel 4125, Switzerland. The Other Way is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us at here@theotherway.ch.

What we collect, and why

What When Why
Your email address When you join the waiting list To send you occasional updates about Lex The Saurus, and to let you know when books are available
Your name, company, email and role When you request the trade pack To send you the pack and to follow up about it
Where you arrived from, meaning the referring page and any campaign tags in the web address With either form To understand which of our activities people find useful

We do not collect anything else. There is no account to create, no analytics package, no advertising pixel, and no profiling.

Children

This site is written for adults, for parents, educators and the book trade. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us their details, write to us and we will delete them.

The legal basis

Under Swiss data protection law we process your data because you have given it to us voluntarily for a clear purpose. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the basis under the GDPR is your consent for the waiting list, and our legitimate interest in responding to trade enquiries for the trade pack.

Who else touches your data

Form handling

The forms on this site are handled by a small script on our own server. The details you type are saved on our Swiss server and emailed to us. No third‑party form service is involved.

Hosting

The site and our email are hosted by Infomaniak in Switzerland, so the files and our correspondence sit on Swiss servers.

Fonts

The typefaces on this site are served by Google Fonts. Loading them means your browser contacts a Google server, which will see your IP address. If that matters to you, we can serve the fonts from our own server instead, and we intend to do so.

The dictionary lookup

If you press the button that digs for more words, your browser sends the search directly to an open dictionary service. Nothing about you is included in that request beyond what any web request carries.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with anyone beyond the services above.

Cookies

We set no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies. The site stores two small values in your own browser, on your own device: one remembers that you have already seen the opening sequence during this visit, and one remembers if you have asked not to see it again. Neither leaves your device and neither identifies you. You can clear both at any time through your browser settings.

How long we keep it

Waiting list emails are kept until you ask to come off the list. Trade enquiries are kept for as long as the commercial conversation is live, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case it starts again. If you ask us to delete either, we will.

Your rights

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a portable form. You can withdraw consent for the waiting list at any time, and every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Write to here@theotherway.ch and we will act on it.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can complain to your own national supervisory authority.

Where your data is processed

Form submissions and our email are handled entirely on Swiss servers at Infomaniak. We do not transfer your data outside Switzerland. The one exception is the web fonts noted above, which your browser requests from Google.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site.

Working draft. This policy has been written from the site as it currently behaves. It has not yet been reviewed by Marco Handle, and it should be before the site goes live. One thing in particular is worth his eye: whether a Swiss representative is needed for European visitors.
