Terms of use

Last updated 2 August 2026

These terms apply to lexthesaurus.com. By using the site you accept them. If you do not, please stop using the site.

Who runs this site

The site is operated by The Other Way, Riehen, Basel 4125, Switzerland. Lex The Saurus is a brand of The Other Way. Contact: here@theotherway.ch.

What you may do with the content

Everything on this site belongs to us or to the people who made it for us. That includes the characters, the illustrations, the names, the stories, the text, the layout and the code. You are welcome to read it, link to it, and share links to it.

You may not copy the illustrations or characters, reproduce substantial parts of the text, use anything here in a commercial product, or train a machine learning model on the artwork or the writing, without asking us first. For press and trade use, write to us and we will send you what you need.

The name and the characters

Lex The Saurus is a trademark of The Other Way. The villagers of Locus Crocus, their names and their designs are our intellectual property. The illustrations are drawn by hand by our own illustrator and are protected as artistic works.

Accuracy

We keep the site as accurate as we can. Publication dates, formats, specifications, events and availability described here are our current intentions rather than commitments, and they can change. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell, and nothing here forms a contract.

The research we refer to is summarised for a general reader. Where a claim rests on published work, we name the work so you can read it yourself. Our summaries are not a substitute for the papers.

The word tool

The section that takes words apart draws part of its list from an open dictionary service outside our control. Words returned that way arrive unedited and may include forms that only look related. That is the point of the exercise rather than an error, but it means we cannot vouch for what comes back.

Links to other sites

Where we link out, to a dictionary, a paper, an organisation that supports us, we do not control what is on the other end and we are not responsible for it.

The trade pack

If we send you the trade pack, it is for your own assessment of a possible commercial relationship with us. Please do not circulate it outside your organisation or publish anything from it without asking. Where a separate confidentiality agreement is in place between us, that agreement takes precedence over this paragraph.

The waiting list

Joining the waiting list costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Any founding member pricing we mention will be described properly at the time, and will be subject to its own terms. You can leave the list whenever you like.

Availability

We offer the site as it is. We do not promise it will always be reachable or free of faults, and we may change or withdraw any part of it. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the site.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Swiss law. The courts of Basel-Stadt have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights you have as a consumer in your own country.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed.

Working draft. Written from the site as it currently stands, and not yet reviewed by Marco Handle. Two points worth raising with him: whether the jurisdiction clause holds against consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom, and whether the machine learning restriction is drafted the way he would want it, given that it is a live question in publishing.
